12. Of the Harmony of the Law and the Gospel

We believe that the Law of God is the eternal and unchangeable rule of his moral government; that it is holy, just, and good; and that the inability which the Scriptures ascribe to fallen men to fulfill its precepts arises entirely from their love of sin; to deliver them from which, and to restore them through a Mediator to unfeigned obedience to the holy Law, is one great end of the Gospel, and of the means of grace connected with the establishment of the visible Church.

PLACES IN THE BIBLE WHERE TAUGHT

We believe that the Law of God is the eternal and unchangeable rule of his moral government;

(Rom. 3:31) Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:;

(Matt. 5:17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.;

(Luke 16:17) And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

(Rom. 3:20; 4:15) Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 4:15 – Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

that it is holy, just, and good;

(Rom. 7:12, 7, 14, 22) Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. 7.What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. 14. For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

(Gal. 3:21) Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

( Psa. 119) …

and that the inability which the Scriptures ascribe to fallen men to fulfill its precepts arises entirely from their love of sin;

(Rom. 8:7-8) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

( Josh. 24:19) And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

( Jer. 13:23) Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

( John 6:44) No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. (5:44)  How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

to deliver them from which, and to restore them through a Mediator to unfeigned obedience to the holy Law, is one great end of the Gospel, and of the means of grace connected with the establishment of the visible Church.

(Rom. 8:2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 4. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

(Rom. 10:4) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

( 1 Tim. 1:5) Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

( Heb. 8:10) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

( Jude 20-21) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21. Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

( Heb. 12:14) Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

(  Matt. 16:17-18) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven 18. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

(1 Cor. 12:28) And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
