A Person Knows Their Own Spiritual Condition

(2 Cor 3:14 -16)  But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ. {15} But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. {16} Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.

From the verses given, we notice how plain the inspired writer describes the condition of those who have NOT turned to the Lord.  More specifically, we notice that the Lord’s apostle points out what part of a person must turn to the Lord.  Verse 16 records “… when IT shall turn to the Lord” which refers back to the individual’s heart.  So the inward part of man must turn to the Lord for a person to be considered as one who has turned to the Lord.

We might tell a person to do a thing but if they are not able to do that thing, we make an error.  Consider an example: If an eye doctor gives a patient the wrong prescription of glasses then tells his patient, “Now you can see”.  What if that patient us blinded as they look through the glasses (as if a veil was over his/her face).  Who then really knows the patient’s true condition, the doctor or the patient?  The patient is the one who really knows.  The same applies to a person’s spiritual condition.

Consider the condition of a lost person.  There are many who are TELLING people to just do this or that and you will be at peace with God.  My friends, the new birth is something you feel in your own heart.  If you don’t have the Spirit abiding in your heart, you haven’t been born again.  Also, you know if you understand a thing or not.  If you lack spiritual understanding, seek the One who can teach you.  Go to God and He will fix your heart.  You’ll be the only mortal person who knows when it happens.

(Mat 13:15)  For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.  The verses proceeding Matt 13:15 point out that those who heard the Lord could not understand what He was teaching.  He explained that God’s plan does not allow a person to learn of God without coming through Him, Jesus Christ. (John 14:6)  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.  Once again, notice that a person MUST come to the Lord, not to any mortal man or group of mortal men, to have their doctrinal learning disability cured.

In conclusion, no one can harmonize the whole of the Bible and not conclude that a person knows when they are born again because the inner man experiences the new birth when it occurs.  Let’s be careful to rightly divide the word of truth.
